5 September 1925 at Beawer, Ajmer Distt. In Rajasthan.
Early Education
Went to Khalsa High School in Rawalpindi in Punjab and studied there till 9th Class (pre-matric).

Professional Training
1940-42 Joined Indian Mercantile Marine Training Ship “Dufferin” at Bombay in January 1940 and passed out in December 1942 with an Extra First Class Certificate.
Naval Career
1943  Selected for the Royal Indian Navy and was sent to England for training with the Royal Navy.1944-45. Served as Midshipman onboard Royal Navy Battleships H.M.S. ANSON and KING GEORGE V. Saw active service in World War II, first in the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans against Germany and later in the Pacific Ocean against the Japanese.
On return to India he served in several ships and establishments and later commanded Indian Naval Ships GANGA, TIR, BRAHMAPUTRA, BEAS, the aircraft carrier VIKRANT and the Western Fleet. His shore appointments included: A.D.C. to the first Indian Governor General, C. Rajagopalachari, ufficer in charge Gunnery School, Battalion Commander at the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla (Pune), Deputy Naval Adviser to Indian High Commissioner to U.K., Chief of Personnel at Naval Headquarters, Commodore in charge Naval Barracks at Bombay and Director General Naval Dockyard Expansion Scheme, Bombay.
He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Nilgiris, the Joint Services Staff College, U.K. and the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies, London. He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his contribution to the Human Resource Development in the Indian Navy.
He retired from the Indian Navy on 31 March 1977, in the rank of Rear Admiral.

Post Service Career
After retirement from the Indian Navy, he promoted Dolphin Offshore Enterprises(India) Private Ltd. with the object of providing support to the newly discovered offshore oil and gas fields in the Indian continental shelf. He remained the Managing Director of the company for thirty years from inception.In due course the company replaced foreign companies that had monopoly in underwater technology. The company, which started with a paid up capital of Rs. 5,500 in 1979, went for its Initial Public Offer in 1994. The company is listed on the Bombay band National Stock Exchanges. Rear Admiral Kirpal Singh continues as Executive Chairman of the company.

    My father died in November 2001 in Bangalore where we are staying now.
