Married to Prince Poorurttathi Thirunal Marthanda Varma, descendent of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, Vidushi Gopika Varma started learning Mohiniyattam at the age of 10 from Smt. Girija and Smt. Chandrika Kurup. Later she specialized in the art form under the guidance of Smt. Kalyani Kuttyamma and her daughter, Smt.Sreedevi Rajan. She learnt Abhinaya, the quintessence of Mohiniyattam, from Sri. Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair, the doyen of Kathakali. She also received professional training in the “Sopana” style of performance, from Sri. Kavalam Narayana Paniker. 

Vidushi Gopika Varma has  widely performed in India and abroad and received various awards for her contribution to Mohiniattam including ‘Kalai-mamani’ from Tamil Nadu Government and ‘Nritya Choodamani’ from Krishna Gana Sabha.

Vidushi Gopika Varma teaches Mohiniyattam at her Dance School,”Dasyam”, at Adyar, Chennai.
