Dr. Gurinder (Kaur) Harnam Singh, was initiated into Gurbani music by her father Brig. Harnam Singh while she was still at school. She started learning classical music from her mother ( who has been a disciple of Ustad Abdul Shakoor Khan of Agra) at an early age. Even today her Shabad  Gurbani  compositions which are strictly based on Raags, are inspired by her mother Mrs. Hardev Harnam Singh. She formally started learning from Smt Rekha Chatterjee of Allahabad, then Prof Ajit Singh Paintal of Delhi Univ, Professor Som Dutt Battu of Shimla, and later from Padma Vibhushan Smt. Kishori Amonkar at Bombay. Gurinder completed her BA Honours, Masters, M.Phil and Phd. in music, From University of Delhi, under the guidance of Prof. Ajit Singh Paintal. Presently she is heading the Dept of Music in JDMC Delhi University.She has many CD publications to her credit and has widely performed Kirtan in India and in leading Gurudwaras in UK, USA, Middle East,  Dubai, Sharjah. She was awarded the Punjabi Academy award for Classical and Gurbani  Kirtan in 2005.
