Sri Shekhar Sen was born in Raipur (Chhattisgarh) in 1961, the son of the late Dr. Arun Kumar Sen, a noted artist and musicologist, and the late Dr. Aneeta Sen, an eminent Thumri artist. Sri Sen started his career as a music Composer and singer in 1979 in Mumbai.

As singer, composer & lyricist he has more than 200 Cassettes & CDs released including collaborations with artists Anup Jalota, Anuradha Paudwal, Nitin Mukesh, Sonu Nigam, Chhaya Ganguli, Udit narayan, Alka Yagnik, Jaswant Singh, Kavita Krishnamurthy. In 1998-1999, as Playwright, Director, Composer, Singer & Actor he invented a new era of Mono-act musical plays by presenting spiritual jewels like “Tulsi”, “Kabeer”, “Vivekanand”, “Saahab” & “Soordas” in hundreds of shows throughout India, USA, Europe, Asia and Africa. As a singer he has performed more than 1500 shows all over the world. Hes has served as chairman of Sangeet Natya Akademi since 2015 and is a life member of Cine Music Directors Association and I.P.R.S.
