Dr. Alankar Singh is an Assistant Professor of Vocal Music in the Department of Music at Punjabi University, Patiala. He received training in classical vocals and Gurmat Sangeet in the Guru Shishya Parampara under the late Professor Tara Singh, a renowned musicologist and composer who belonged to the Gwalior Gharana of Khayāl Gāyaki. For the last twenty-three years, has been learning from Pt. Ganesh Prasad Sharma of Ambala. Dr. Alankar Singh has had the privilege of performing at the five Takhts of the Khalsa Panth and holds the singular distinction of being the first and only recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardee in Gurbani Kirtan.
