Sri Ashutosh Upadhyay is the son of Pandit Pannalal Upadhyay of the Pt. Basudev Upadhyay Parmapara from Gayā, Bihar. From an early age, he began studying Pakhāwaj under his father, working diligently at achieving the precision of Bōls – the clarity of sound production, and the overall mellifluousness of the instrument, which are the hallmarks of the tradition he represents.               

Both as an accompanist and as a solo artist, he has performed at important stages across the nation, including the Benares Dhrupad Mela and the Sangeet Natak Akademi. For the past two years, Sri Ashutosh Upadhyay has been imparting instruction on the Pakhāwaj to students in Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab at the invitation of the Anād Foundation.
