Bhai Baljit Singh Namdhari

Brothers Bhai Baljit Singh and Bhai Gurmeet Singh were born in village Khapar Kheri, Dist Amritsar to Pritam Kaur and Gurbachan Singh. They inherited their passion for classical music from their paternal and maternal grandparents. Educated from ‘Namdhari Darbar Sri Bhaini Sahib, Ludhiana, Satguru Jagjit Singh ji, head of the Namdhari sect himself used to devote time every day to train these rising youngsters. With the advice of Satguru ji, they also devoted themselves to eighteen years of studies from well known musicians such as Thumri singer, Bhai Mahinder Singh & Surjit Singh, and learned ‘Dilruba’, ‘Tārshehnai’ and ‘Rabab’ from ‘Tārshehnai Vadak from Delhi, Sr. Piara Singh.

They got education of ‘Vichitra Veena’ from Pdt Gopal Singh from Delhi and education of ‘Shehnai’ from world famous ‘Shehnai Vadak’ Ustad Bismillah Khan and Ustad Vilayat Khan. Due to the blessings of their great teachers (ustaads), they are proud to have the treasure of  ‘Dhrupad, ‘Dhamar’, ‘Khyaal’, ‘Partaal’, ‘Guldasta’, ‘Sawa gyarah’, ‘Sawa Chaudah’, ‘Pandrah’, ‘Chaturang’, ‘Dhumri’ and ‘Taraana’. They have been awarded ‘Shiromini Award’ by Department of Punjabi Language, Patiala in 2004. They have been awarded ‘Shiromini Raagi Award’ by Punjabi Academy, Delhi Govt in 2005. They have learnt this great art as per ‘Gurumat’ and with the blessings of Satguru ji they have been instrumental in establishing the tradition of classical music in the Namdhari community.
