Nihal Singh grew up in Maryland on the east coast of the United States and has been playing the Tabla since the age of five. He graduated with highest honors in political theory and philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley in 2016. While at Berkeley, Nihal designed and taught a course on the theory and practice of North Indian classical music. Since 2008, Nihal has had the blessing of studying Gurbāni Kīrtan with Bhai Baldeep Singh, from whom receives instruction in the Amritsari Bāj of Jōri-Pakhāwaj and Tabla, Dhrupad vocals, and Dilruba. Nihal is also fortunate to study the tabla with Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri.
