Rear Admiral Kirpal Singh, AVSM (1925–2021), was a distinguished officer of the Indian Navy, maritime-sector pioneer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Chairman of the Board of Advisors of The Anad Foundation in an earlier phase of its work.
He served in the Indian Navy with distinction and retired on 31 March 1977 in the rank of Rear Admiral. He was a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington; the Joint Services Staff College, United Kingdom; and the Royal College of Defence Studies, London. He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his contribution to human-resource development in the Indian Navy.
After retirement from the Navy, Rear Admiral Kirpal Singh founded Dolphin Offshore Enterprises, established to provide support services to India’s offshore oil and gas sector. The company became one of India’s early offshore-technology firms and grew into a listed company.
He was also associated with philanthropic initiatives, including the Dolphin Foundation, which supported grants and fellowships connected with the offshore and maritime sector. Public records also note scholarship support associated with his name for the children of Indian Navy personnel.
Rear Admiral Kirpal Singh’s association with The Anad Foundation reflected the importance of institutional discipline, public service, maritime and technological vision, philanthropy, and long-term advisory support in the development of cultural and heritage organisations.
