Conceptually the difference between repair/replacement and restoration is not clear to the ASI and other government thekedars. Secondly, they have no trained labour or artisans for the task. From Ajanta to Quila Mubarak, everywhere you go you see the destructive zeal – Ignorance and Apathy.
Indeed. It has been shocking for me personally that people who have a mere technical perspective are undertaking jobs beyond their brief. Decades of destruction of precious heritage, both tangible and intangible, shows that the produce of a cultural perspective must not be entrusted to mere technicians.
